Bellbrook Fishing Report week ending 1st November 2013
Yes Autumn has definitely arrived at Bellbrook. The woods are giving a beautiful display of colour to our anglers.
Again we’ve had a mixed bag this week with some lovely sunny weather but also some very heavy rain with a cold wind. This has affected the fishing by making it very unpredictable although as the week closed out we saw some consistent fishing once again. The surface activity has continued to be good with reports of Mayfly off the top and oddly plenty of takes to sub surface Daddies retrieved at a medium to quick pace.
Ron Hawkins of Willand fished regularly and was very pleased with his 2 fish off the normals totalling a whopping 7-4! One fish was a cracker at 5-7 and Ron thought he was going to go in after it!
Luke Parker and Fred Leach from Bampton thought they would try the new 2 hour ticket which works for those on limited time. They both caught managing a 3-5 and a 3-1, again not bad for the normal lakes.
Geoff Jarman of Okehampton returned for another half day and caught three fish for 10lb of the normal lakes. He favoured the Mallard and Claret fished sub surface - an old school fly but very effective it would seem.
Ian Pinwell of Spreyton also returned and had such a successful morning he had to buy another ticket! In the end he had 3 specs for 17-12 and 2 normals for 6-12. His favourite fly was the Hare’s Ear. It is always a pleasure to see Ian as he is constantly telling us that he hasn’t seen such good quality fish at a small still water before – keep it coming Ian!
We had angler Dave Bull from Taunton introduce the fishery to a new fly this week. Dave caught his two specimens for 9-4 using a Yellow Moth – not a tactic I have seen before but it just goes to show that you never stop learningJ
