The weather has finally broken and while it isn’t warm the sharp cold snap seems to have released us from its grip. The fishing conditions have been variable with some coloured water after heavy rain but mostly fairly clear.
Fishing Report for week ending 10th August 2018
Fish continue to come out inspite of the very warm weather. The considerable quantity of rain this week has helped freshen things but I've been pleasantly surprised how well the lakes have been fishing. One of the challenges this time of year is the amount of natural food in the lakes - the fish have the pick of the crop. So you do have to work at offering them someting different and/or tempting. But believe mme its even more satisfying when you do figure it out.
Ben Knowles of Exeter caught his limit of 3 fish for 7-9 on the normals using a very small black nymph - we are talking size 16 here. It was fished in mid water and Ben commented on the strength of the take!
John McQuire of Newton Abbot caught 2 specimens for 9lb dead using both a dry daddy but drowned and a small Cats Whisker. Both fish took near the surface and tried to wrap John around the platform legs but he managed to keep them on.
