After all the rain last week the fish are in fine fettle! It's been a cracking week with all the lakes producing well and most fishermen catching their bag.
The Bellbrook Cup Fishing Reports – Heat One 15th March 2015

(Scroll down for lots of photos) We had a fantastic turnout for this the first heat of this new annual competition. The weather was perfect being slightly overcast but there was no wind. There was an air of expectancy as I greeted the anglers at 8:30 – it’s not every day you turn up to fish for a chance to win £1000.
The lakes were pegged with a maximum of 3 anglers per lake (except the specimen lake which has 6) and so we started the briefing with the peg draw where everyone finds out where they need to be. The good news is that because the competition is based on a point per fish rather than weight and because of the way the fishery is laid out the draw doesn’t have any bearing on likely success.
The first siren went off at 9:30 and by 9:35 the first fish were already caught! And this success rate continued pretty much all day - I still can’t decide whether it was the conditions or the skill of the anglers but it was possibly the best the lakes had fished in my time here.
In total 71 fish were caught during the day with 5 anglers catching their limit of 6 fish and a further 6 anglers catching 5 fish each – nobody blanked! The full league table can be found on the Competitions page of our website but the following summarises the leader board so far:
If you are interested in taking part in a similar day these are taking part all year with The Bellbrook Cup and details can be found on the website at www.bellbrookfishery.co.uk/competitions .
